Sunday 21st June - West Coast Trojans 52 v 8 Newastle Vikings

Trojans To Strong For The Vikings

The Trojans moved to 6-0 and all but secured post season football with a comfortable 52-8 win against the Vikings at Garscube on Sunday.

The Trojans offence starter well and added 44 points in the first half, 32 of them in the 1st Q which was more than enough to secure the comfortable win against the #2 team in the NFCII North.

This win all but secures playoff football for the Trojans who should see out the remainder of the season and move into the playoffs ranked in the top 3.

1st Quarter: The Trojans started the game by receiving the ball and after a couple of short gains RB Jordan Falconer found a seam in the Vikings D and put 6 points on the board, the defence forced and recovered 2 fumbles and also a interception from CB Michael How, Jordan Falconer would add a further 2 TDs in the 1st quarter, WR Dave Pasnik would also add a score when he connected with QB Gary McNey from 29yds out. RB Josh Polson would finish of the scoring in the 1st Q with a 1yd TD run.

2nd Quarter: The Trojans offence was firing on all cylinders going into the 2nd quarter and the scoring kept coming when RB Jordan Falconer added his 4th TD of the afternoon this time form 30yds, then WR Dave Pasnik added a 68yd TD pass, the defence also forced and recovered another fumble and LB Dave Carney also picked the Vikings QB off.

44-0 WR Dave Pasnik 68yd TD reception PAT failed

Half Time Trojans 44 – 0 Vikings

3rd Quarter: The game had now entered into a running clock, a rule BAFA have introduced to stop blowouts happening, although all it does it limit the game time for backups, the Trojans now had 75% of their backups on the park and were still moving the ball but the gutsy performance of the Vikings who travelled with a very depleted squad kept the offence scoreless in the 3rd Q, in fact it was the Vikings who would put points on the board when their LB stripped RB Josh Polson and took the ball back 75yds for the TD.

44-8 Vikings LB on a fumble return PAT good

4th Quarter: The game was now winding down with both clubs trading punts and all the backups now getting valuable time, the scoring ended after TE Calum MacAskill who has just returned from injury latched on to a McNey pass on 4th and goal.

52-8 TE Calum MacAskill 1yd TD reception PAT failed

Final Score Trojans 52 – 8 Vikings

Trojans HC Gary McNey commented on the result “We came out the blocks flying and both sides of the ball was exceptional, the offence scoring 44 points in the first half, and the defence forcing and recovering no fewer than 5 fumbles and adding 3 interceptions”

“Our running game was great today with again over 350 yds and 5 TDs, we stuttered with our passing game but added a further 3 scores and over 150yd so overall I was happy with our performance, the defence was its usual self holding their offence to very few 1st downs and yardage, and again gave us the ball in the Vikings territory on no fewer than 8 occasions"

“Credit to the Vikings who travelled light, this is only their first season playing in BAFA and are sitting pretty with a 8-2 record and should be playoff bound come August”
