Sunday 3rd May - West Coast Trojans 46 v 7 Newastle Vikings

Trojans Trounce The Vikings

This game was being touted as the one to decide the NFC2 North, much has been said about the new team the Vikings and their very impressive season opener v Glasgow Tigers and then Northumbria Lightning which they won with an combined score of 125-8.

The Trojans on the other hand had only played one game against the Hurricanes and won it convincingly 56-8.

1st Quarter  - The game was predicted as being close, but 4 TDs from the Trojans opening drive putting 26-0 points on the board in the 1st Q clearly showed that the new boys still have a lot of work to do to compete with the Trojans.

6-0 After a short gain on the first play QB Gary McNey found WR Murray Hogg on the 2nd play from scrimmage deep down the left sideline and the WR took it 81yds for the score (PAT Failed) 14-0 WR Dave Pasnik added another TD on their next possession this time from 33yds out the same player tagged on the PAT. 20-0 WR Hogg added his 2nd TD reception of the day on a short 5yd TD pass from McNey (PAT failed) 26-0 RB Falconer would tag on the 4th TD of the Q and in doing so took his career rushing stat’s to over 10,000yds.

2nd Quarter – The Trojans Defence led by DE #99 Paolo Sassarini  who would finish the day top tackler with 9 solo and 2 assists was giving up nothing forcing the Vikings into little gains in the first half, the Vikings punt team was putting in a shift and the returning of WR Hogg would set the Trojans up nicely for a further 2 TDs in the 2nd Q.

32-0 RB Chris Lang who had replaced RB Josh Polson who left the game to receive 8 stitches in a cut to his elbow, Chrissy found himself on the score sheet after some power running behind a solid O line and took the ball home from 5yd out (PAT failed) 38-0 WR Pasnik tagged on his 2nd TD reception of the day from 7yds out (PAT failed)

Half Time Trojans 38-0 Vikings

3rd Quarter – The game now entered the new mercy rule whereby if a team goes 35+ ahead a running clock will be used, this is not a great rule as it take game time away from starters and backups. The Trojans were now moving players in and out of the game and would finish the 3rd Q with another rushing TD and a great goal line stance by the D who stopped the Vikings 4 attempts from the 1yd line.

46-0 RB Falconer added his 2nd TD of the afternoon with a short 7yd burst up the middle, WR Pasnik tagged on the PAT.

4th Quarter – The game was going back and forward now  and the Vikings offence with a new quarterback at the helm where starting to make good ground, but it was 2 big broken plays from a deep pass and a run down the right side, this would give the Vikings their only score of the day when they went in from the 1yd line on 4th down.

46-7 Vikings with their backup QB #1 took the ball over the goal line from the 1yd line on 4th and goal, the PAT was good.

Final Score Trojans 46-7 Vikings

Trojans HC Gary McNey Commented “There was a lot of hype about this game mostly due to the 2 great results the Vikings ha leading up to the game, we knew if we played our game we would run out winners, our 1st Q performance was similar to the game in Dundee, and there is not many teams that can come back from 4 scores down in the 1st Q”

“The Vikings have a good but small squad and played some decent football, #1 and #32 are decent ball payers and we had to change our game plan a little to take care of them both, the end result is something we are happy with and now take it forward to the next game on Sunday up in Aberdeen.
