Sunday 5th July - West Coast Trojans 38 v 6 Aberdeen Roughnecks

Trojans Move To 7-0 & Secure Playoff Football

The Trojans moved to 7-0 and secured playoff football with a 38-6 win against the Aberdeen Roughnecks who are sitting 4-4 but may still secure a playoff spot should they win their last two remaining games.

In a game that would see the Trojans QB Gary McNey suffer a rib injury early on in the game, the Trojans running game took over which would see all four RBs scoring TDs to make up the 38 points with 6 rushing TDs.

The Trojans defence was once again outstanding, led by top tackler LB David Strachan they contained the Roughnecks offence, the only score came from a fumble recovery by the Trojans O which was returned spectacularly 95yds for the score.

1st Quarter: The Trojans received the kickoff which was returned to midfield, after a few 1st downs the Trojans punted the ball away, the defence took to the field and stamped their authority on the game when the Roughnecks RB fumbled the ball giving the ball over to the Trojans, Trojans QB McNey then went down hard on a 3rd and goal but on 4th and goal RB Jordan Falconer took the ball home for the score.

2nd Quarter: The Roughnecks filled the box with players as it was obvious QB McNey was struggling to pass only completing short passing plays, but the running game was dominating up front and both RB Chris Lang and Josh Polson would add further scores to give the Trojans a 18 point lead at the half.

Half Time Trojans 18 – 0 Roughnecks

3rd Quarter: The Roughnecks started the 3rd Q with some nice running from RB Donny McCormick who once wore the colours of the Trojans, but again the Trojans D forced them to punt, then after a few short yardage plays RB Falconer found a seam off tackle and raced to the end zone from 44yds out, the same player would add another score his 3rd of the day after FS Dave Pasnik ran back a interception 44yds to within the Roughnecks redzone.

4th Quarter: With the backups now getting valuable time the game was going back and forth, but the Trojans offence got within scoring range, but on 3rd and goal a miss communication between QB and WR resulted in a fumble which say Roughnecks LB return the ball 95yds for the score. The Trojans then put together a nice 80yd drive behind the running of RB Lorn Campbell, the named player would add the final score of the day with a 7yd TD.

Final Score Trojans 38 – 6 Roughnecks

Trojans HC commented “we are happy with the win which secures playoff football and all but secures the Div title. Credit to my offensive who knew they had to perform today more so after I got my injury which all but rules out the passing game, 380yds and 6TDs will kill any team.

“my defence again were outstanding, we changed things up a bit today to see how it would go and the lads easily adapted and the end result was another shut out, by that I mean they prevented their offence from scoring as their score was from a Trojans offensive fumble.

“we also have to work on our PAT game, to score 2points from a possible 12 is like giving away two TD, we will work on this and get our kicking game sorted as we have one of the strongest kickers in the league in Dave Pasnik.
