Sunday 10th May - West Coast Trojans 32 v 7 Aberdeen Roughnecks

Trojans Move To #1 in NFCII North

The Trojans made the long trip to Aberdeen to face the team at the top of the NFCII North the Aberdeen Roughnecks, both teams were sitting 2-0 going into the game so the top of the table spot was there for the taking.

The Trojans would run out eventual winners by a score of 32-7 on a playing surface that raised a few eyebrows by the condition underfoot.

The Trojans now sit firmly at the top of the Div, and will look to cement their spot with another away trip this time to Northumberland on the 17th May

1st Quarter - The game started pretty much the same as both the Trojans previous games with the Trojan s scoring on every drive in the 1st Q to give the Trojans a comfortable 20-0 lead going into the 2nd Q.

6-0 Trojan QB Gary McNey finds WR Murray Hogg in the corner of the endzone from 18yds out  (PAT Failed)
14-0 Trojans RB Jordan Falconer continued his great form from the previous week with a short 3td burst up the middle following some great bocking by the OL (PAT Failed)
20-0 WR Hogg added his 2nd TD reception of the day a short 3yd play (PAT was good)

2nd Quarter - The Trojans Defence led by LB Iain MacKenzie who finished the day as top tackler with 8  tackles (5S & 3A) and 2 sacks for a loss of 15yds, were containing the Roughnecks to little to no gains, but after a Roughnecks Interception and a few flags the Roughnecks found themselves on the Trojans 1yd line were on 3rd and goal they punched the ball home, again in true fashion the Trojans offence stuttered in the 2nd Q and failed to put any scores on the board in what has been the 3rd game this season.

Half Time Trojans 22-0 Roughnecks

3rd Quarter – The game was going back and forward now with both teams finding it hard to move the ball because of poor underfoot conditions, the Roughnecks got a controversial score late in the 3rd Q after a dubious PI penalty on 3rd and goal and then a TD was given when it looked like the eball carrier never crossed the goal line.

22-7 Roughnecks RB took the ball home from 1yd out, the PAT was tagged on

4th Quarter - The Trojans ofence sparked to life again in the 4th Q and added 2 further scores when RB Falconer scored from 3yd and 14yds the 2nd after a 13 play 90 yard drive to give the Trojans a comfortable lead going into the 4th Q.

26-7 RB Falconer added his 2nd TD of the afternoon with a short 7yd burst up the middle (PAT failed)
32-7 RB Falconer added his 3rd TD of the day this time from 14yds out (PAT failed)

Final Score Trojans 32-7 Roughnecks

Trojans HC Gary McNey Commented  “I am very disappointed how we performed today, it was never a game we were going to lose but I dont expect the team to play as bad as we did, not taking anything away from Aberdeen they did cause us some problems but the horrendous condition of the pitch did not help our style of football, yes it’s the same for both teams but they at least have 6 months pre-season to practice on it.

Again our Offence got the team a solid lead in the 1st Q with 20 un-answered points, but we failed to take advantage, took our foot off the gas and stuttered through the remainder of the game.

The Defence again held them too little to no yards and only 1 score after a Trojans turnover and PI call on the Trojans 1yd line, even that score was disputed as it looked like the player never crossed the line.”
